چکیده

The paper presents reliability and risk analysis of the RBMK-1500 reactor accident localization system (ALS) (confinement), which prevents radioactive releases to the environment. Reliability of the system was estimated and compared by two methods: the conventional fault tree method and an innovative dynamic reliability model, based on stochastic differential equations. Frequency of radioactive release through ALS was also estimated. The results of the study indicate that conventional fault tree modeling techniques in this case apply high degree of conservatism in the system reliability estimates. One of the purposes of the ALS reliability study was to demonstrate advantages of the dynamic reliability analysis against the conventional fault/event tree methods. The Markovian framework to deal with dynamic aspects of system behavior is presented. Although not analyzed in detail, the framework is also capable of accounting for non-constant component failure rates. Computational methods are proposed to solve stochastic differential equations, including analytical solution, which is possible only for relatively small and simple systems. Other numerical methods, like Monte Carlo and numerical schemes of differential equations are analyzed and compared. The study is finalized with concluding remarks regarding both the studied system reliability and computational methods used. q 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Parameters Estimation in Modelling of Gas-Gap in RBMK Type Reactor Using Bayesian Approach

This study presents developed algorithm for assessment and updating estimates of parameters in the mathematical models of non-stationary processes (for instance, system ageing model, dynamic system models and so on) with respect of prior information and new obtained observations. Proposed algorithm for updating estimates of random parameters is based on modified application of Bayesian approach...

Thermal assessment of new Ignalina NPP casks for spent nuclear fuel storage at some abnormal conditions

For interim storage of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) at the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP), the so-called “dry” storage technology has been chosen. In this case, SNF after a cooling (pre-storage) period in water pools (no less than 5 years) is placed into GNS (Germany) manufactured metal CASTOR ® RBMK-1500 or reinforced concrete CONSTOR ® RBMK-1500 casks and may be stored for at least 50 years ...

Analysis of radionuclide release through EBS of conceptual repository for Lithuanian RBMK spent nuclear fuel disposal – case of canister with initial defect

At the Ignalina nuclear power plant (NPP), app. 22 thousands of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) assemblies from the RBMK-1500 type reactor have been accumulated [15]. During the operation of Ignalina NPP, the assemblies of SNF were stored in water pools and in storage containers, located in the interim storage facilities. According to revised Lithuanian Strategy for Management of Radioactive Waste [20...

Environmental releases of radioactivity and the incidence of thyroid disease at the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant.

The Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant consists of two Russian-made RBMK-1500 reactors. The plant uses Lake Druksiai as a natural reservoir for cooling water. Within the framework of the revised radiation dose limitation system, site-specific routine release conversion factors and maximum annual effective doses for the dominant radionuclides and pathways were evaluated for both atmospheric and aquati...

RELAP5-3D Model for the KURSK 1 NPP

A RELAP5-3D model has been developed for the RBMK Kursk 1 NPP. The primary features of this model are the three-dimensional neutronics model of the reactor core and the user subroutine that generates the neutron cross-sections. This subroutine contains the same neutron cross-section libraries that are presently being used in the Russian STEPAN/KOBRA calculations. The implementation of the neutr...
